WVSA’s School for Arts In Learning (SAIL) Public Charter School in downtown Washington, DC is recruiting classroom Teachers for Kindergarten through 7th grade for the 2008-09 school year. Candidates must have a minimum of two years of classroom experience (preference given to applicants with Master’s level training in Special Education). Interested in this unique teaching opportunity?
Do YOU possess these skills?
- At least two years of successful teaching experience in language arts mathematics and other core subjects
- A passion for the arts demonstrated in multiple ways
- A desire to use innovative technology in classroom/curriculum activities
- Knowledge and familiarity with urban schools and positive behavior support systems
- A background working with students with special needs and students who learn differently
- A strong undergraduate/graduate record (preference given to individuals with Special Education concentration)
- A firm grasp of grade-appropriate material and instructional strategies
- A focus on student achievement results and an analytical view of student progress toward standards
- A passion for teaching and connecting with students
- A desire to work as a team player and interact professionally with other teachers, staff, parents and community members
- A commitment to a classroom and a school promoting academics, character, leadership and continuous learning
- Maturity and personal stability sufficient for a demanding teaching position
- Fulfillment of the NCLB “highly qualified” requirements

to service grades K-6. Available positions include Psychologists,
Social Workers, Occupational Therapists and Speech and
Language Pathologists.
Candidates
are required to be licensed and certified to practice
in the District of
Columbia and have an understanding of IDEA. All candidates
must have a passion for the arts, be able to work collaboratively
with teachers and staff, and experience working with
students with special needs and who learn differently.

Adult Literacy Teacher Needed
WVSA ARTs connection, a non-profit arts and education organization located in downtown Washington, is seeking an Adult Literacy Teacher. The individual will be responsible for assisting our ARTiculate Adult Literacy Program in providing structured curriculum. Other responsibilities of this position include:
- The ability to provide instruction to adults age 18 and above.
- The ability to use reading assessment and diagnostic screening measures.
- Identifying needs and making recommendations for appropriate reading and writing materials.
Are you able to work in a fast-paced environment that requires a strong personal initiative? Do you enjoy working in an environment that celebrates the arts and youth with special needs special skills and special talents? Then we want to hear from YOU! Ideal applicants will have at a minimum a Bachelor’s degree in education (special education preferred), two years classroom experience, preferably with adult learners, as well as passing PRAXIS I and II scores. The ability to work in a Mac environment is a plus.
